God is so good. He has given each of us the incredible privilege of knowing Him intimately and partnering with Him in His work. We all know that the spiritual disciplines of prayer, Bible study, tithing, fellowship, etc. are vital to growing in this relationship with Him, but what about the discipline of fasting? Fasting seems to have been "out of vogue" for the past 150 years or so, and has just recently begun to gain acceptance again among evangelical Christians. But what is it and how do we do it? Hands On Prayer Event (Article from 2004-2005 Yearbook, Hands On)
The "laying on of hands" is an ancient practice that we see in the Scriptures as far back as Genesis 48, where we see Jacob laying his hands on the heads of his grandsons to bless them. Throughout Leviticus we read of the offerings presented to God, which describe how the sacrificer laid his hand upon the head of the sacrificed animal before offering it to God. Other uses in Scriptures of the laying on of hands show that it was used when individuals were set apart for leadership or special service, in miracles of healing, and in the bestowing of gifts. We see Jesus in Matthew 19 laying his hands on the little children to bless them. Vine's Bible Dictionary, in discussing the practice of the laying on of hands, says "the principle underlying the act was that of identification on the part of him who did it with the animal or person upon whom the hands were laid". . .
